K+ Somewhere between the 9.42m and 9.46m serial ranges the dial seems to have changed to a shorter crown and a and different font on the "G" in "GMT MASTER II". This dial . I have read "Orchi's" thread about the 16760 dial variations many times and feel that there is another variation that he didn't cover. Very rare first year production with "OYSTER PERPETUAL" estimated 8.3-8.4m serial number range. Notice the rounded "G" on "GMT MASTER II" and the tall coronet. As mentioned, the Fat Lady 16760 only came with the red/black bezel insert. A Pepsi Fat Lady is just wrong, wrong, wrong.. As to the no-date dial (dials without the word "date" on them), some look for them, but the 16760 is rare enough; they came both ways. _____
Rolex decided to use the letters from Rolex as the new serial numbered watches for each year. They used RLEX without the O - which could have been confused with a 0 (zero). R serials first, then the next year they began with L, next year was E and so on. Last year was X for the ROLEX letters - minus the O which wasn't used. The dial is an Oyster Perpetual date, but reads only oyster perpetual so I believe its an earlier model. The other available to me is a 16710, in very good condition. The case has never been polished and it looks extremely clean as compared to the fat lady above.
